Hate 'em
Off the Wall
Aug. 23, 2007
I imagine we all have things in our lives that drive
us crazy, things that irritate us over which we have no control.
For, if we could control the situation, possibly, we would do
so in the blink of an eye.
After reading this introduction, I bet you have
already started accumulating your list mentally. Really, it's
not that hard to do.
Before reading today's column, why not jot down
eight to ten things you hate and see if any of what I say are
on your list. O.K. here is some of mine.
Have you ever watched a television show and you
are really into a murder mystery, for example? Thinking the guilty
party will be exposed at the end of the program, you sit and
wait. Then at the last second, the words appear on the screen,
"To be continued" That just grates me. I'll never remember
to tune in again. Did the butler do it? Got me.
Tell the people who invented these; their product
does not sit well with me. The invention the contour sheet.
Just when I get one side tucked under, the other springs loose.
When all the corners are attached and I go to sleep, eventually
they pop out and my face is on the mattress pad. Swell.
A woman contacted me recently and had her name put
on the prayer chain because someone in her church had falsely
accused her of doing something she didn't do. Hey folks. Before
going and pointing fingers, get all the facts, please? False
accusations can be very hurtful.
One thing I can't stand is to be screamed at. One
area mother told me her son was attending Officers Training School
and he was being "beat-up, screamed at and pushed to his
limits physically and mentally. I'll tell you right now, I would
never make it as an officer. A gentleman without doubt,
but not an officer.
Were you ever served cold food when it is supposed
to be hot? I'd almost chance that we all have at one time or
another. I can hear someone say, "In this country, we are
so blessed to have food, don't make such a big deal about it."
I'm not, really. I'm just saying, when I eat out, I like to eat
hot as opposed to cold to warm food if it is supposed to be that
way. That's all.
I love my mornings. I've gotten away from being
an early riser where I used to get up around 5-ish to go for
walks around 5:30 a.m. Now I walk in the evenings. But there
is something about the quietness of the morning that seems to
be lost as the day goes on.
We all have our pet peeves. I'm no different.
A number of people have told me the only reason
they go to church is because their spouse goes. That saddens
me. Church going should be times of celebration, not drudgery.
Other people tell me they are of one denomination
or another, but don't really believe what the churches teaches.
Yet they cling to the label of being something they're not.
One of my all time biggies is people who talk in
church and don't respect the proceedings that are going on. Often
I have felt like standing up, turning around and yelling, "Shut
up!" but that wouldn't be very Christian, I guess. Instead,
I thought of having a piece of paper printed out that reads,
"God is watching and listening to every word you are saying.
He is taking notes and will bring them to your attention in purgatory."
May either get people thinking or not influence them at all.
Who knows.
Maybe this is a sign of my getting old, but I hate
to be cold (rimes).Give me that good ol' hot weather with shade
trees and I am in seventh heaven feeling peachy keen.
Haven't quite understood yet why I am troubled by
this, but I hate going to bed at night even though I am tired.
The first thing that comes to mind is that I feel guilty that
I didn't do enough to help others through the course of my day.
Maybe it's the uncertainty as to what my dreams will be. I've
got it! I'll be attacked by my contour sheet!
